During World War II, Nazi Germany needed copper for the war effort … so it abandoned copper coinage and issued “emergency” zinc coins instead. The zinc coins were made only from 1940-1945 and feature the German eagle and swastika design. The last coins were struck just before the Nazi regime collapsed in early 1945, and most coins were destroyed long ago. This complete three-coin zinc set is a fascinating piece of history that is now over 60 years old.
