There is no more powerful symbol of Ancient Egypt and the Golden Age of the Pharohs than the Pyramid. These massive and mysterious monuments have stood for ages as relics of the glorious past – a past which has now come back to life through a worldwide traveling exhibition. Collectible America is thrilled to announce the launch of the World’s First Pyramid Coin to mark one of the most anticipated cultural events in 30 years: the return of King Tut’s glorious treasures as part of the Tutankhamen and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs exhibition!
24 Karat Golden Pyramid Coin
Each of these legal tender coins are struck with intricate detail and impressive sculpting in bronze and then fully layered in 24 karat (.999) pure gold. The large (65mm wide) and impressive pyramid-shaped coin is housed in a deluxe four-color presentation card which also serves as the official certificate of authenticity.
This spectacular coin is part of a series which depicts the most wondrous artifacts unearthed in the young Pharaoh's tomb in the Valley of the Kings by English archaeologist Howard Carter in 1922 and portrays the stunning Gold Death Mask of Tutankhamen – the most famous image of the Boy Pharaohs. The last time the treasures of King Tut were allowed to be exhibited outside of Egypt was in the 1970’s and over 8 million people thrilled at the display of wealth, beauty, and majesty.
The gold alone in Tut's 2,448-pound coffin would, at today's prices, be worth about $1,700,000. Now, to honor the return of King Tut thirty years later, we are proud to offer a stunning 24 karat Gold edition of this World’s First Pyramid Coin! King Tut has been dead for more than 3,300 years, yet today in 2009, judging by the lines winding around and into the current blockbuster exhibition, King Tut is as alive today as he ever was!
King Tut: Tutankhamen was one of the last kings of Egypt's 18th Dynasty and ruled during a crucial, turmoil-filled period of Egyptian history. The boy king died under mysterious circumstances around age 18 or 19 in the ninth year of his reign (1323 B.C.) Since the discovery of his tomb in 1922, Tutankhamen has captured the hearts of people around the world. Buried with him were treasures beyond the imagination, a tomb holding the most magnificent treasures of the Golden Age of the Pharaohs and giving us a glittering glimpse into the past.
Legal Tender from the Isle of Man: The King Tut 24 Karat Golden Pyramid Coin is a legal tender issue from the Isle of Man. Situated midway between England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales, the Isle of Man is a part of the British Islands. This small island country has a land mass of some 227 square miles and measures at its extremities 33 miles by 13 miles. It is most appropriate that these coins are issued by the Isle of Man Government since Howard Carter’s great nephew is a well known resident of the island.
