This commemorative celebrates the 250th anniversary of Thomas Jefferson's birth.The coin was designed by T. James Ferrell with the obverse showing a profile of Jefferson made famous by a Gilbert Stuart portrait. The reverse features Thomas Jefferson's Monticello home. The BU Dollar was struck at the Philadelphia Mint and bears the dual dates of 1743 and 1993 and the inscription "Thomas Jefferson" "Architect of Democracy".
