A stunning collection of 20 Genuine Roman Bronze Coins, each bearing the portrait of a different Emperor from the third and fourth centuries A.D. Each 1600+ year-old Roman Bronze is protected in an archival capsule and beautifully displayed in a deluxe, custom made hardwood case. The case features a rich, forest-green velour interior to showcase the coins alongside a plaque inscribed with a list of the 20 Emperors.
These genuine ancient Roman bronze coins allow you to actually touch relics of the majestic and brutal Roman Empire. The obverse side of each coin shows the portrait of the emperor at the time the coins were minted. The reverse shows pictures and phrases depicting famous battles, historic events and mythology.
Coins of the Roman Empire were made by hand by inserting a hot metal blank between two dies and striking the upper die with a heavy hammer. The resulting coins were often not perfectly round, and often imperfectly centered. And yet, many bear greater artistry and higher relief than modern coins struck with the most sophisticated minting presses in the world! The obverse side of each coin bears the portrait of the emperor at the time the coins were minted. The reverse sides show images depicting history, military themes and most frequently, mythology – as Roman gods and goddesses dominated Roman life, which explains the popularity and power of these mythological themes. We hope you will enjoy this collection as much we enjoyed putting it together.
