Official US Commemorative Silver Dollar

The 1992 Columbus Silver Dollar was issued for the "quincentenary" (500th Anniversary) of Columbus' discovery of the Americas. The obverse of the coin features Christopher Columbus standing beside a world globe holding a flag in his right hand. Behind him, a panorama of ships and the New World can be seen rising in the background. The obverse was designed by John Mercanti and the reverse was designed by Thomas D. Rogers. The obverse inscriptions read Liberty", "In God We Trust", "Columbus Quincentenary" and the date "1992"."
