1909 Lincoln VDB Cent MS64
The Scandalous VDB Cent
2009 marks the 100th Anniversary of the Lincoln Cent - which is the longest running design in US history. However, very few people realize that this classic US coin actually created a firestorm of public protest when it first debuted in 1909! You see, Victor David Brenner, designer of the Lincoln Cent, placed his initials prominently on the reverse of the coin, directly beneath the matching stalks of wheat. The American public was outraged, and Theodore Roosevelt quickly ordered the removal of the VDB initials - making this 1909 variety an instant collector's favorite! We have secured a small cache of these coins certified by either PCGS or NGC as Mint State 64 grade, but they are going fast!
